Spotted bass (Kentucky bass) run smaller than largemouth bass. A 5 pounder is a large Spot. While there are differences in the dorsal fin and coloring, the tongue is the easiest way to tell the difference. Spots feed on crawfish a lot and have a rough area on their tongue to help hold the craw while they crush it. They are more aggressive than a LM. They tend to feed and spawn deeper than LM and school together more. They are more of a river bass than a LM and more streamlined. Hope this helps, Braveheart.
