Now that the water temps are going into the 50's and high 40's the shad are the largest they will be this year. Bass are feeding less in the cooler weather but are still on shad. Most shad imitators move too fast or have too much movement at these water temps. A large 5-8 in. grub fished on a 1/4-1/2 oz. round head jig with a 4 or5 (0) long shank hook is a good choice. Let the grub settle to the bottom and SLOWLY swim it back. Try to maintain some contact with the bottom. Another choice is the lift and drop. Let it settle and lift and drop it back to the boat. One of these usually works for me. A nice thing about the grub is it can be fished vertically with the same setup. If the bass are schooled along a bluff, vertical jigging is a great way to catch them. An old but still good lure.

    Good Fishing!
