Took a little trip to Pickwick this week. Went with a good friend of mine that I use to do some tournament fishing with a number of years ago. His son owns a Ranger z520 and a place just right off the lake. Let us borrow the boat and his place for a few days.

We left Tuesday about 10:00 AM and got to the lake around noon. Unloaded everything and fished until around dark that evening. First spot we hit was a big flat right off the main river channel up by the damn. Fish were stacked in there like cord wood. Flat was around 21' deep falling into 35' to 40' of water. Caught a fish on my very first cast with a 3/4 oz football jig in a Summer Craw pattern. Guess we ended up catching about 30 fish off that spot before we moved. The rest came using a drop shot and c-rig. My buddy threw the rig and I threw the drop shot. Lot's of fun pulling fish out of 30' of water using a spinning rod and 8 pound line. Biggest we caught off this spot was around 5 pounds with most in the 2 to 3 pound range. Hit a couple more spots before calling it a day and ended up with about 45 fish caught that afternoon. All being caught on big worms texas rigged, big worms on a c-rig and drop shot with Finesse worms.

Next morning we fished another part of the lake. Struggled a little bit until after lunch and only caught about a dozen that morning. Found some fish on another ledge stacked up pretty good. Caught them on big football jig, c-rigs and texas rigs using big worms. Ended up catching between 30-35 fish that day.

Cold front came in the 3rd day with wind picking up quite a bit. Only fished until noon and then packed up for the ride home. Caught fish yesterday morning on a c-rig using big worms and 3/4 oz spinner baits. I was throwing big spinner bait and buddy was using c-rig. Had a blast catching fish on spinner bait out of 25' top 30' of water. Fish would hit spinner bait like a freight train and was a lot of fun. Ended up catching another 20 or so yesterday before wind made it tough to stay on spots out in the main river channel.

All in all it was a good trip. Did not catch any giants but did catch a ton of 2 to 4 pound fish. Biggest for the 3 days was right at 5 pounds or so. Hopefully I will get the chance to do again in the next couple weeks.
