LOZ is a privately owned lake that the Corps has no control over. It is one of the few Unlimited lakes in the country for size and speed of boats. It avgs. .5 miles in width which creates a problem with waves. A bathtub effect occurs when the waves continuously bounce from bluffs and break waters. Over the last 3 years the size of the cruisers in my part of the lake has greatly increased. There are 3 deck blue water yaghts, intercoastal yaghts, and inland yaghts reaching in excess of 90 ft. and cruisers as big as 72 ft. Offshore racing boats reaching 75 ft. and speeds of 180 mph also compete for the water. On holiday weekends you may have 40,000 boats on the water at the same time.

Yesterday, about an hour after I wrote my post, my fingers went numb. Feeling returned about a .5 hr. later. My wife and I decided that we were not going to be on the lake on holiday weekends again. The large boats are running full speed and the waves are reaching 8-10 ft. at times. Numerous people were thrown from their boats and injured and at least 3 people were killed that we know of. If you come to LOZ, please do not come on a holiday during the boating season. This old guy will not attempt to run the lake during these periods again.
