Reading another thread, I sometimes wonder how folks decide what lures to throw; particularly if they have filled their boat storage with lures. I personallly carry little tackle in the boat. After my first hour on the lake, I am pretty sure what I am going to do until a weather change takes place. The rest of the trip, I use a small day box of lures. This is how I decide what to put in my small day box.
    1) I use a flasher unit as I idle to the front of the cove. I know the activity level by the time I reach my take off point.
    2) I judge the wind and current to help my lure selection.
    3) I start with seasonal patterns. I always start at or slightly above the activity level of the bait.
    4) If I can't find an activity level, I start fishing shallow and work deep.
    5) Usually by the end of m first hour, I know what to put in my day box for the rest of the trip. If condiitions change greatly, I will start the process again.

I back seated a guy in a draw tourney who got caught up in a boat load of baits. I had three rods and all my lures were in a small paper sandwich bag. I almost had a limit by the time he had decided what lures to fish. Look at the pros. Most of their baits are in their trucks or vans. They load the boat with emergency gear such as extra trollers props, tool kits, etc. The amount of baits in the boat is smaller than you would expect.
