Electonics.....I don't understand

Ok as I have posted recently I am in the market for a fish finder and trying to buy used to get a larger unit at an affordable price. I have been hitting all the boards I know of and just do not understand. For example I saw a Lowrance 510 used sale yesterday for $350. I saw a HDS 5x listed locally for 300 with out the transducer and mount. Problem is BPS has a brand new one for 379.00. A guy on another board has a 510 with no transducer or bracket for 100. Well the transducer is 70 and the bracket is 50. That isn't a bad deal but he wants pay pal and shipping on top of that so you are at 250. Why would anyone pay that when for another 100 or so they can get a new unit with warranty. I really want a LCX 113 or 113 and have seen a couple new in the box ones but they are 1100-1300.
