Post frontal fishing in the midwest is tough. The bass have disappeared and the shallows are deserted. When I can't find them in their usual places, I move to the mouths of creeks and large coves. Shad will move to these areas and suspend in the middle or deepest part of the mouth. Bass will follow the shad but are usually neutral or negative in their feeding. I will find the shad on my electronics and look to the sides of the shad school for bass. Smaller bass to the sides of the school and larger bass underneath the school. I will jig for these fish using smaller baits such as a finesse worm, grub, maribou jig, Little George, etc. If the bass start feeding, I will switch to a jigging spoon or a large grub. If the bass are truly in a negative mood, time to head indoors and do something else.
