Field Day

I know I make this thread every year, but I'm going to do it again :tooth:

Took the boy to school today for field day. I waited outside the classroom and before they went out, I heard the teacher tell them that this was not a competition and there was no winners or losers. The teacher that had the group behind us, kept asking the kids if they had fun on that station and they would all say yes, then she would yell "then we are all winners". Of course she did it with a voice from above the Mason Dixon. I was really glad when we got separated from her group..... By about half way through it, you could tell the kids had no interest whatsoever in the games.

There was a parent volunteer running one station and he'd call out which team won. I was waiting for him to get tarred and feathered at the flag pole.

Field day used to be the highlight of the school year when I was in elementary school. You were selected for ~3 events. You practiced for a month and then you competed. If you won, you even got a ribbon :shocked:. When you wasn't participating, you sit in the bleachers, cheered and behaved. If you didn't, you risked getting thumped in the head by a teacher.

I just don't understand what is wrong with kids learning that there are winners and losers and if you lose, practice harder next year. How is that different than having grades in school?
