I started keeping a fishing log for every lake "I fished when I was 12 yrs. old. The logs are a great record of what happened when during your time on the lake. It is especially important for tourney anglers. Over time, you will learn a lot about the lake, how you fished it, and in many cases, how you can improve your catch. Here are some of the things I put into my lake log.

    1) date, air and water temp, weather conditions
    2) fishing depth of first bass caught, size, lure, cover or structure, time, conditions
    3) a general observation of the of the day and any changes I made to my fishing.
    4) Anything of special interest I noticed about the lake, forage, or my fishing.

I took quick notes during the day and re-wrote them in the evening. When I tourney fished my logs gave me a great help in preparing patterns and tackle for that lake. After fifty yrs. of log keeping, I have almost enough data to catch bass.

Over time you will come up with some interesting observations. Some things about LOZ: it is a jig and plastics lake. Hard baits and spinners will work at times but IT IS A JIG AND PLASTICS lake. Deep fishing is the most consistent for numbers and size. It is a night lake during boating season. It is quickly becoming a finesse lake. The bass are moving more to offshore shad schools and away from the shore and mid depths. It has a tremendous amount of bass.
