I had nothing to do one day last week and stopped by a small pawn shop. I look for paintings by several local artists for future value. No paintings I wanted but there was a large display of knives people had pawned. They were too expensive for their true value but he had a small corner of the display with about a dozen knife boxes. I asked about them and was told they were cheap knives and sold for $10. The first box I looked at said Appalachian Trail, which is a very cheap knfe that breaks easily and is hard to sharpen. Inside the box was a very old Buck hunting knife that looked brand new. I closed the box and took it to the counter. The guy didn't even look inside and I paid my $10. I was going to resell it but it is better than any hunting knife I currently own. It's going to hang on my bug out belt. I visit several pawn shops a couple of times a year. I found an H. Hargrove painting last year for $40 that is worth $2500. They go on the wall but I consider them part of my retirement fund.
