How much tackle should a Co-Angler carry?

I was reading another forum and someone was complaining because they could only take 6 rods and a large tackle bag as a co-angler? I fished a tourney with a local pro(and friend) on the back seat because his son could not make the tourney. I planned what I needed and showed up with 3 rods and a small paper bag of terminal tackle and lures. We did very well and this really is how I fish in the back with most people. My friend was appreciative and said it was part of the reason he had asked me. I also brought water, a sandwich and my PFD.

How much tackle is too much for a co-angler and what planning do you do as a back seater?
