Interesting fishing

  1. Took the new girl out for a few hours yesterday after lunch. She has no experience with bass fishing, so I tied her a crank on one of my boy's spinning reels and showed her how to cast it. She got the casting thing down pretty good (better than I can with those little demon possessed mechanical engineering disasters).

She fished for a while then asked me if I was going to put some bait on the hooks, nothing is going to bite it with the hooks showing :Rolling:

She did try a Texas Rigged Alchi stick a little bit. She liked it better since the hook was hidden. I thought I was fishing with Droopy, because she got a "nibble" on every cast.

Now this year, I've been trying to play fish a little bit more than my normal ski em on top back to the boat, especially when fun fishing as it does make it more fun catching them. Well, I was really wanting to catch a decent fish for her to see after catching a few little ones. We pull up in a neck that you can almost walk across because of brush being so thick everywhere. 1st cast, I set the hook and a nice 3+ lber swirled up to the surface. So, I horse it away from the brush pile, then get on the trolling motor and Bill Dance her a little (HR fish have fought harder this year than anytime I remember before). About half way back to the boat, the fish dives and I just hold tension letting it do it's thing. About this time, dummy me remembers that brush is everywhere and I've let it wrap me up.

After that, she wanted me to catch one on "one of those things with the hooks hanging off it", because she didn't believe a fish would bite it. Turned out she was right

On another note, everywhere we went, there was schools of bait fish on the surface. Mostly from the mouths to halfway back. Water temps were 83-85*
