Moderate Muslims

I always thought that if the muslim world were freed from dictators and kings, we would hear moderate muslims speak out for peace and civility with the rest of the world's religions. I listened and watched for any sign from the muslim street for moderation and have seen a swing towards more conservative religious views. The US, which spoke out for change, is being vilified by the newly endowed population. We are still "the Great Satan" ; our leaders, nation and religions vilified; our flag burned or trampled.
The muslim street threatens us with war and torment because we do not believe as they do. I lived, ate with, and listened to the average muslim while I was working many times. Always it was "you are also good people and we can live with you peacefully". I no longer believe they feel that way and now wonder if they ever did. It is possible that what is needed is a show of strength on our part. No more foriegn aid; a switch from imported oil; no new weapons. Or, if necessary for the protection of our citizens, a military response. They feel our charity shows us as weak; it really shows the greatness of our country.
