Need 4WD help!!!

    Coming home from work tonight, I was in 4WD and getting on the highway. When I shifted into 4th gear, I went only a few feet when there was a thunderous roaring groaning noise coming from the front end and then the something in the front LOCKED UP! It locked up so hard that the groceries went flying off the front seat onto the floor.
    The motor died, so I started it back up and tried to move but it was almost like I was trying to push something with the front end. The truck wouldn't move and the motor died again. Still stuck on the highway, I started it in 2WD and it moved, but there was still that groaning noise which eventually stopped with a click when the 4WD disengaged. I pulled off the highway into a large Pamida parking lot and tested it out.
    In 4WD, it groans and make lots of noise, but there is power going to the front wheels. It eventually locks up (usually when I shifted). In 2WD, it groans for a while till the 4WD Disengages then drives fine.
    What do you guys think? The hubs? The front differential? The transfer case? :shocked:
    My buddy Buddha is a mechanic and is calling his buddy who works at a dealership and specializes in Chevy transmissions and 4WD's. Whatever it is, it isn't going to be easy on my wallet. :Mad:
    BTW: The extended warranty I bought ran out on 01 December. :head_on_wall::head_on_wall:
