OSU Thoughts

Discussion in 'Talk, Talk (off topic)' started by Just Piddling, Jan 5, 2011.

  1. The way I see it.

Players-- I don't think the players did that much wrong. They sold awards and PERSONAL belongings and they got discounted prices for tattoos. The NCAA has another stupid rule that prohibits players from trading their "persona" for services. So, I'm not going to bash the players too much, it was their stuff and they sold it.....big deal. As for the tattoos, as a player, are you supposed to pay full retail price for services. How many people have a friend that owns a repair garage and gives them a discount on labor?

But at the same time, don't give sob stories about selling stuff to help out your family, while spending money on tattoos.

NCAA-- 1) They have several stupid rules that were meant to keep amateurs, amateurs. Now they are translating the rules to nit pic anything they want and can.

    2) 5 game suspension??????????????? There has been a lot more serious violations addressed with a slap on the hand. Why? interest in the bowl game. The NCAA is about as consistent as NASCAR in rule interpretation and penalties

Jim Tressel and OSU-- To me this is the most underhanded part of the whole situation.

Ohio State players facing five-game suspensions next season would not have traveled with the team to the Sugar Bowl if they had not pledged to return in 2011, head coach Jim Tressel said Thursday.

So, Tressel bargained, leveraged, blackmailed, or whatever you want to call it, the players into staying and playing for OSU next year. That was mighty thoughtful of him. I'm sure he was only thinking about the kids discipline and not thinking of ways to have star players return.

I really hope all 5 players declare for the draft and leave the NCAA, OSU and especially Tressell looking like idiots, they deserve it.
