rod tip question ?

my favorite fishing rod has lost that plastic or ceramic center piece. All that's left is the metal guide. In the old days that's all we had and it was fine. The question is should I just fish with it as is, or to try and replace it ? I suppose I'd have to hack off the very edge to get a replacement over it ?:thinking: I am a po ole Floridian retiree trying to live on fixed income and not as rich as a po ole Mainer:stirthepot:
