Scam

Discussion in 'Talk, Talk (off topic)' started by Just Piddling, Feb 15, 2011.

  1. Why does everyone have to run a scam nowadays?

Sept 2008, I agreed to a two year bundle agreement with the local cable company (Time Warner). I never use the house phone anymore so I thought I would call and see if that would lower the bill by dropping the phone service. After holding for 40 minutes, a guy finally comes on and says it will save me $12 a month, but I would have to pay a $135 buyout first. I told him I was past the two years, but he jumped right back to inform me that I was automatically in an additional two year agreement. When I asked how, he said that I verbally agreed to that when they read the terms during the first agreement. I asked if that was recorded and he said yes. So I asked if I could get the recording where I agreed to that.

After he mumbled around for a while, he said that I would have to call another number, but I told him he was wanting to transfer me before to upgrade, that he could transfer me to that dept too. So, on hold for another 20 minutes. Lady picks up and asked the problem, So I explained (I might have said scam a few times). She tells me to hold (another 10 min), comes back and says her supervisor said they would have to retrieve that information and for me to call back in 3 days.

When I told her I had been on the phone for an hour already, she said they could not help the call volume. So I politely told her, if they weren't trying to scam everyone, they wouldn't have so many calls, to which she hung up.

The sad part is, I'm pretty well stuck with cable, since I live in the woods and would either have to run a pole in the air or clear trees for a satellite
