OMAHA, Neb. -- The Metro Area Fugitive Task Force arrested David Puckett late Monday night. Marshals located Puckett inside an apartment at 47th and Lafayette streets.

The Metro Area Fugitive Task Force said Puckett escaped from the Stiles Unit prison in Beaumont, Tex., on March 9 by slipping through razor wire. According to the Houston Chronicle, Puckett had walked into St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, part of the Texas Medical Center in Houston, to seek treatment for injuries he sustained from the escape. Puckett reportedly walked out once he spotted officers inside.

Puckett had served eight years of a 30 year prison sentence for cutting a police officer's throat, according to America's Most Wanted.

Puckett is also a convicted sex offender.

Texas investigators called the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force Monday afternoon, and said Puckett could be in the Omaha metro.

Within hours, U.S. Marshals tracked Puckett to that midtown Omaha apartment, and found another woman and children inside. Marshal John Huggins said when his team entered the apartment, Puckett tried to escape through a second floor window, fought officers, and had to be subdued with a Taser before being taken into custody.

After paramedics examined Puckett, the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force took Puckett to the Douglas County Corrections Center.
