Any of you fellers who might be thinking about fishing trip to the Knoxville, TN area, I've got a suggestion.

I live on Lake Loudon and have spent 3 or 4 years fishing on it--or trying to (bass boat and kayak). Dodging white boats (as Mr. Hattaway calls 'em) and the bass-boat swamping waves they make, and cussin' at jet skiis and 100 ft. houseboats (?)---I've pretty much had it.

Today, my brother and I decided to head 20 minutes west to the Tellico Reservoir to try and find some relief. (I know, ask me why I didn't do this before.)

As slick a public launch as you've ever seen right across from the little dam (lots of parking, 6 porta-potties, bathhouse, 2 single ramps and 2 double ramps--all with floating docks), the lake is mostly free of residential real estate, the water's clear down to 15 feet (Loudon stays opaque at 1 foot), and (at least today) doggone decent fishing. We saw maybe 3 bass boats, 1 jet ski, no white boats, and almost no houses. Lots of bass, and the biggest dang bream I've seen in Tennessee (I'm spoiled to SC 'shell crackers').

If you come this way, don't even bother with Loudon. Norris is ok but some local guys call it "the dead sea". Watts Bar can be good; but I'm betting that Tellico can beat them all.
