I worked 30+ years in the U.S. intelligence agencies. I worked with Senators and Congressmen, Generals and Admirals. During my career, I realized that the work of congress is the perpetuation of power. The goal is always re-election first, state second, and will of the nation last; except in war. It doesn't matter what political party is in charge, the other party's goal is to resume power. I realized that the country has always functioned this way. So, what has changed to put us in the position we are in?

The basic policy of the U. S. since WWII is to conserve resources and use the resources of others. We have a 1500 year supply of oil in the Western U.S. shale deposits. We have preserved mineral and rare earth deposits. We have the best fresh water supply of any country and our farmland has been preserved. We are in a lull in the economy. We are still in better shape than any other country.

The other major policy is to forment unrest in any competetor's area of interest. This has kept conflict away from our borders. Sometime this backfires. The Iraq war declared cost would have rebuilt every road and bridge in the interstate highway system and many state roads. The "black budget" for Iraq may have exceeded the declared budget. Creating turmoil costs MONEY.

Every politician has to gather and spend money on thier constituents. Gettting re-elected costs MONEY. It is called the Federal Budget.

Health care has been costing 1/6 of the GDP. It is already costing us MONEY.

The U.S. is in great shape for the future compared to other nations. Our problem is debt and cash flow; same as any business. The answer is to elect people who are willing to put the good of the people first and rein in federal spending. Until we control debt, we cannot create jobs or move forward as a nation.
