While doing some research

    While digging around at work, I came across some pics of a location I'd been to. I was there the first time about 6 months before Hurricanes Gustov and Ike. The next time was right after. Something big (either a ship or semi-submersible drill rig) had hit the platform causing the fire. The place was evacuated for the hurricanes at the time, so no one was hurt in the fire. When we arrived after the hurricane to do a damage assessment (and empty the freezers and fridge), I was amazed. There was a bridge that connected the 2 platforms and it was GONE! The fire got so hot that it melted some of the top deck beams. You can see them sag in a couple of the pics. They're made out of 24" I-beams, so it must have been really toasty.

    I haven't been back since and wondered what had happened to the place. Now I know.

    Oh, the fridge and freezers hadn't had electrical power in almost a month. They were pretty rank.
